Don’t Overlook It: Are You Getting Enough Z’s?
With a new school year now upon us, we want to take a moment to remind parents, teachers, and students of the importance of sleep. Proper sleep is often overlooked when getting back into a structured routine. Our body needs sleep to survive, heal, and recuperate, and without it, we begin to feel worn down.
When kids don’t get enough quality sleep, the brain has a tougher time processing and storing information, which can lead to shorter attention spans, difficulty following instructions, and a harder time concentrating and focusing on schoolwork. In kids who struggle with ADHD, a lack of sleep can exacerbate symptoms such as hyperactivity, irritability, and impulsiveness. This can create a cycle that makes it tougher to get proper sleep, which can feed even more into these symptoms.
One of the most common changes people see when starting neurologically based chiropractic care is an improvement in their sleep! Subluxation in the spine causes our body to get stuck in a “stress” state, and limits how well our body can adapt and switch over to our rest and digest state.
By gently and specifically correcting subluxation with regular chiropractic adjustments, the body is getting its best chance to adapt to stress and move us into our relaxed state to get a great night’s rest, so that you can get the proper sleep to heal and function properly! With improved sleep, kids will have the ability to have more patience, longer attention spans, and improved emotional regulation.
Regular chiropractic adjustments give our bodies the best chance to get deep, restorative sleep, which prepares us to take on whatever the next day may bring!
